The Thames
I was in Zurich recently for a conference. On the way back to Manchester, we flew over London - my old home town. I've always been impressed by the amount of detail one can make out from the air and how the geographical outlines familiar from maps are also visible. The first feature I remember seeing when flying from Manchester to Vienna was The Wash. Then, when flying to and from Paris, I was impressed at how it was possible to see the whole 20+ mile stretch of the Strait of Dover. This time I saw the River Thames from the east. In this image, a number of things can be seen. Not least, the Millennium Dome, Tower Bridge and other bridges further up stream. One can even make out HMS Belfast, The Mall and Hyde Park.
